Rob helped us create a custom table for our great room. I wanted to incorporate an old tree that fell in our yard into a modern centrepiece for our new kitchen. Rob built three custom pieces for our condo at Mt. Washington. We started with a dining room table, and then a coffee table that is the centre piece for our living room. Our social life up on the mountain revolves around those two tables. From heavy use, they have developed a lovely patina that adds more and more character each year. For our bedroom Rob built a unique headboard from salvaged wood that fits right into a gap behind the bed.
All three pieces contain wood that has a history and tells a story. The top of dining room table is made from joists pulled from a building designed by Francis Rattenbury, the architect behind the BC Parliament buildings and the Empress Hotel. For the headboard Rob collected some of the pieces from the beaches in Tofino, the year after the Tsunami in Japan. On a few of them you can still see Japanese text.
Working with Rob was a pleasure. He listened to our needs, took careful measurements, and then built the pieces specifically for the space they would occupy.
